Energy efficiency
Energy efficiency refers to how effectively energy is being used for a given purpose. For example, providing a similar—or better—level of service with less energy consumption on a per unit basis is considered an improvement in energy efficiency.
The National Energy Use Database’s (NEUD) most important role is to secure the development of a reliable and Canada-wide information base on energy consumption for all energy-consuming sectors. It also helps improve the knowledge of energy consumption and energy efficiency at the end-use level in Canada.
Data are produced by the Office of Energy Efficiency at Natural Resources Canada.
Note: Primary energy encompasses the total demand for all users of energy. This includes, besides secondary energy use, the energy needed to transform one form of energy to another, the energy used to bring energy supplies to the consumer, and the energy used to feed industrial production processes.
For the indicators below, energy use is defined as the energy used by final consumers for residential, agricultural, commercial, industrial and transportation purposes, also known as Secondary energy use. See more NEUD definitions here.
